Huge apologies for the silence - we are still here and working hard behind the scenes! We've had a very busy year with lots of changes both professionally and personally for many of the volunteer team and this has impacted on the time we have been able to spend developing the project. We've still met and held our sorting events, sorting through all the lovely donated items the community provide us with, and have fulfilled a huge number of direct referrals for help from various voluntary and statutory agencies. We're now looking forward to things calming down a little and being able to go ahead with our Little Wrens development plans.
We've held scaled down versions of our book hunts but still managed to get out lots over the school holidays earlier this year, which are always really popular, and are a lovely free activity to get families out in the fresh air and to hopefully help develop a lifelong love of books.
We launched two appeals this month - one for much needed warm, winter shoes. We have previously had some, very kindly donated, shoes and boots given to us but they really didn't have enough life left in them to pass on to families to keep their children's feet warm. So we have put a request out on our social media platforms requesting any warm, as new quality, shoes and boots please for children from 2-16 years old. School shoes, trainers, wellies -anything would be very gratefully received.
Our second current appeal please is for Christmas. I know its a little early to be talking about the festive period but we need to get ourselves organised. This year we are putting on hold the book treasure hunts over the half term and Christmas holidays and instead putting our efforts in to organising a very special festive event for a few local families who really do need a helping hand at Christmas.
Last year we provided Christmas presents to lots of families who were referred to us by Social Services, Children's Centres, the Foodbanks in Bodmin and Wadebridge and other similar agencies. This year we are hoping to even have Father Christmas himself helping us out....
We need - Children's wrapping paper, any brand new or as new toys, games, gifts and books suitable for presents, decorations, small stocking filler presents, festive paper cups and plates, pretty and bright paper for writing letters to Santa, glitter pens or Christmas stickers for the children to decorate their letters and I'm sure there are more items that we will think of as we go along so will update the page when we think of more!
If you can help with any of our appeals please feel free to send us a message via the website or our Facebook page. Thank you, as always, for caring and helping out local families in need xxx
