Happy - nearly - Christmas everyone from all of us at Little Wrens Wardrobe.
Its been quite a year for us, becoming an official registered charity, fulfilling lots of referrals for local North Cornwall families in difficult circumstances, building on the success of our ever popular free book treasure hunts and seeing lots of excited, happy little faces when they find a book, moving premises to our new nest, working with numerous lovely organisations who have supported us both in person and in practical terms, by fundraising for us and by volunteering and meeting lots of amazing, hard working support workers and their clients.
A few extra special thank yous go to - Leigh and the team at Celtic Produce, Marion at TESCOS Wadebridge, and Daniel at Evolve computer repairs for being our drop off points and helping us take in donations from kind members of the public. To every single one of our volunteers who give up their precious time and energy to keep the project running, especially when we appreciate you have families of your own and full time jobs to attend to, we couldn't do it without you - thank you. A special volunteer mention goes to Jade and Levi who are a young couple that give up hours of their time to the project, despite having two young children themselves, and really keep the wheels of Little Wrens turning, and to Amy who has a fantastic eye for a bargain and purchases tremendous amounts of brand new toys and prizes out of her own money for the project which, not only has raised much needed funds, has meant lots and lots of local children have had a special Christmas and been able to receive some gifts no matter what difficulties their families are currently facing. To the staff at Halifax, Bodmin thank you for adopting Little Wrens as your charity of the year and for all you have done for us, to Les at L&M Auctions, Sarah at Medlin Design, Kelvin at 720, the team at Chestnuts - Bodmin Children's Centre and to every single person who has offered help, advice, items for our online appeals for local families, followed us online and shared our requests for help, given their time, bought raffle tickets and generally just supported our fledgling project - THANK YOU! X
So, we have ended 2017 with a busy rush on referrals and last week our volunteer team, with a few new faces too, met and made referral packs of warm winter clothing, school uniform and toys and wrapped Christmas gifts for a further 12 local children. Not everyone will be spending Christmas in their own homes this year with many in domestic violence refuges, homeless hostels and bed and breakfasts and supported housing projects. For those fortunate enough to have their own (rented or otherwise) roof above their heads, we are hearing more and more how people are struggling to make ends meet despite their very best efforts for their families. With just over a week to go if you haven't already 'done your bit' volunteering wise this year, can we perhaps suggest you might want to pop a couple of extra items in your shopping basket and drop them to the Bodmin and Wadebridge Foodbanks who are supplying many local families with the only food they will be enjoying this Christmas. You can see their current needed items on their page - https://www.wadebridgefoodbank.org/give-help/donate-food/
Next year we will be looking at some re-branding of our marketing materials and leaflets to reflect our new referral only service, and looking to reach as many referral agencies as possible so they can tell their clients about us and we can assist with emergency items.
Once again a huge thank you for your support in 2017 and we wish you and your families all a fabulous festive season, wherever you are and whatever you are doing.
Karen, Jodie, Shelley and the team at Little Wrens Wardrobe (Children's Clothes Bank). x
